April 23, 2009 EVANSVILLE - An Evansville convenience store clerk was able to stop a machete-wielding robber early Thursday morning.

Police said 45-year-old Myron Matthews tried to rob a Kangaroo Express around 4:00 a.m. Thursday.

According to police, 38-year-old Samuel Brown was working behind the counter when Matthews came in and attacked him with a machete.


Officers said Brown used a step stool to defend himself and was eventually able to take the machete away from Matthews.

Police said Matthews ran out of the store without taking any money, but was arrested a few minutes later after he was identified as the attacker.

They said Matthews is charged with battery and attempted robbery.
