Bus Driver Shoots Passenger Who Pulled Out Gun

A bus driver and a passenger were injured after they opened fire on each other on a moving bus in Charlotte, North Carolina, on May 18, local authorities said. Surveillance video released by Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) shows multiple angles of the morning shootout, which occurred near Charlotte Premium Outlets, a mall southwest of the city. According to reports, the incident started when a passenger, identified as Omarri Shariff Tobias, stood up while the bus was in motion and asked the driver, David Fullard, to let him off between designated bus stops. Both the driver and passenger were transported to a hospital with injuries, police said. Video shows Tobias and Fullard pull out guns as multiple shots are fired, riddling the transparent shield around the driver. Another angle shows Tobias crawl and move toward the middle of the bus, near an exit door. No other passengers were injured, local media said. Following the incident, Tobias spent six days in hospital, faced “several assault charges” and was jailed with a $250,000 bond, while Fullard was dismissed from his duties, local media reported. In a statement, a CATS representative said it was against company policy for an employee to have a weapon on their property or while performing their job, according to local reports. Re: Bus Driver Shoots Passenger Who Pulled Out Gun

Fullard should be promoted with a raise, not fired.

I want to ride on his bus for all my city travels on his line. I would prefer to be protected by a guy who carries rather than by one who yells.

What a hoodlum rat that pax was. Carrying probably saved the driver's life. To lose your job for defending your life is just not right.

Re: Bus Driver Shoots Passenger Who Pulled Out Gun

If I owned a bus line, I'd hire him and make him carry as a condition of employment.

I'd also require mandatory monthly range time, paid as if on duty for 4hrs and provide the ammo. I'd of course set it up with a local range so he wouldn't be charged.

Damn, so the no guns sign didn't help at all.
Good riddance of the hooded thug.
