A member of the public appears to have helped two men to escape from police custody in Pinetown, South Africa.

The two suspects were reportedly arrested for robbery and can be seen in cellphone video footage escaping from the van shortly after the person loosens the van door.

The first can be seen slithering out from the bottom of the van's back door.

He then pulls it open for his accomplice, who quickly exits the van and runs off.

Bystanders can be heard laughing and whistling at the escape.
