Benjamin Nevers and his girlfriend were wounded during a shootout with an intruder at their home in Dearborn Heights, Michigan, early January 25, 2025. The incident occurred around 1 a.m. in the 23000 block of North Brookside Drive.

Nevers, 24, said the intruder entered through a kitchen window and reached his bedroom door while he was awake and armed. He said the intruder shot him in the foot before he returned fire, striking the intruder in the leg. His girlfriend was also shot in the leg and survived. Nevers started a fundraiser to help cover her medical bills.

Phillip Price was arrested and faced 21 felony charges, including two counts of assault with intent to murder. He was held without bond. Police were also searching for a second suspect who fled.

Victim should have set up defensive cover for him and his GF while waiting for robber to come to his bedroom. Pull the bed 18" off the wall and stick the GF in the gap, then shoot from corner behind dresser. Not ideal, but better than standing in the middle of the room and blasting away with zero cover.

Yeah.... wherever you think you're going to be/need to defend when something like this happens, choose your shoot-from points ahead of time, and also PRACTICE because yes, this kind of thing is most oft to happen with lights out and you're bleary. Would've been much cooler if the egressing perp had bled out right there on the front step.
