Clarify "fine", because I'm not sure he was "fine" before if he was stupid enough to attempt that maneuver.

FFS, one would think to at least have a climbing belt and spurs for something like that.

On a cut high up like that if you are belted in around the tree sometimes the main beam of the tree will split down the center and the lanyard will tighten and break your back. The problem is 1) an improper cut 2) that saw was no where near sharp 3) very poor planning 4) these things added up means he a) was just finishing up and got in a hurry b) an amateur c) momentary lapse of reason (he just fucked up)

This is why you leave it to the pros...like me i do this for a living...lucky hes not dead. Wearing a belt like he should of been, he could be at or above his cut keeping him out of harms way.
