A snake charmer had a brush with death when his pet python tried to strangle him during a live show.

The incident occurred at Mau in Uttar Pradesh, India, on March 20.

The snake charmer had wrapped an adult python around his neck during a show. The snake tightened its grip and began to strangle him.

The man choked and collapsed showing visible signs of distress.

But it took sometime for the crowd to realise that the incident was not part of the show act and that the man was in serious trouble.

Three men rushed to his help and freed him from the python.

They took him to a local government hospital, where doctors treated him and later referred him to a better hospital in Varanasi.

His current condition is unknown.

Please excuse my assumption that this guy's name is Jakhar--a tasteless WWF reference. Labelled elsewhere as a man being knocked unconscious by this snake, I connected all the footage I could find of the incident together, and it seems pretty clear to me that this performer has the life charmed right out of him. As is often the case, the onlookers behavior is almost as interesting as watching the subject. This one is special though, not only does Jakhar receive no assistance from them--in time at least, but people actually toss their donations, change, a folded bill even, right onto his apparently dead back, the snake still coiled around Jakhar's poor neck. Monty Python as hell.
