Re: Relaxing at Home when a Surprise Enters the Room

I wonder if it was venomous. We have mountain rattle snakes in western Massachusetts called timber rattlesnakes but they're so shy no one has ever seen one.

I see diamondbacks often when in the FL wilds, but they are easy to spot because they are huge and not so shy. The pygmy rattlers are the most treacherous because they hunker down and refuse to move. Raises the risk of stepping on one.

Corals are shy. I have seen two wild ones in my lifetime.

Don't think so. I think kraits and corals are the only asian venomous snakes that do not have triangular heads, and that one does not have krait markings.

I had a stripper friend from Naples FL who grew up near the everglades and she and her friends/siblings had to learn The Chant as a child regarding harmless king snakes vs poisonous coral snakes: ~red touching black, safe for Jack. Red touching yellow, kill a fellow~

There's also rather pretty (but harmless) milk snakes all over the northeast here. Not shy at all though. I once woke up, looked down, and saw a milk snake coiled around my bed knob... and I was on a second floor bedroom! I uncoiled the snake; it wrapped tightly around my hand like a constrictor, brought it outside, and let it go. We lived near a large pond with wooded areas nearby. Maybe it was a "sign" of some kind and I was suppose to bargain with it. I probably could have had great riches and fame if I just spoke up Absolutely true story, btw

Re: Relaxing at Home when a Surprise Enters the Room

Milk snakes are awesome! I found one inside my screened porch, on the chair rail, trying to figure out how to get back outside. So I led him the hole he entered through. He went outside but stayed on the exterior chair rail and didn't want to freefall to the ground. So I stuck my hand out about half way down to the ground. The milk snake immediately lowered his head to my hand and formed his body into a "step" so he could move to the ground under his own power. That blew my mind.

The external genitalia are that of an otherwise normal adult male. (I was in the pool!)
