Focal boundary guarding at its hilarious finest. There are some dogs who only property guard in the presence of a fence that acts as a visual marker for the property boundary. The likelihood is, if that little bit of gate wasn't there, they probably would just sniff each others butts and then move along and get on with their day. On a similar note, my Dane and a Rottweiler got into a shouting match over a soccer ball they both wanted. Whilst they were up on their back legs bellowing in each others faces, a Staffy came along and pinched the ball from between them. The moment that happened, both my Dane and the Rottweiler immediately quit bitching, looked down at where the ball used to be, looked at each other, and simply walked away without another sound. |

Any time there's conflict like this, it should be immediately stopped. While they could just go their separate ways, it's also a fine line. Getting amped up like that can instantly turn into a full blown dog fight, where one or both dogs end up badly injured and/or dead. Might not happen the first 10 times, could happen on the 11th. That energy can be explosive. |
