Ceramic plates are only so effective. This is a 7.62 AP round and what it does to a plate. It more than likely would have still been fatal, the next round would have went right through as the plate was shattered.

I am very sure that was real. That is what the vests do and don't think that a vest means no injury, it does not. Had that been a 44 magnum he would probably be dead as the energy is enough to stop the heart as well as shatter the rib cage.
