Flushing with water is almost never a bad idea. Unless you have sodium metal dust on you or something. Then it might be a bad idea.

What I don't understand is if the dad told him not to microwave in the first place why did he let his son do it? He had to be within earshot to hear his son put it in the microwave and turn it on.
