D-Day Landing Footage at Omaha Beach, Normandy, June 6, 1944
U.S. forces landed at Omaha Beach in Normandy, France, on June 6, 1944, during the D-Day invasion. Period black-and-white footage shows troops packed inside a landing craft, wading ashore through shallow surf and going over the side of another craft into the water. The landing sequences were filmed at Omaha Beach, probably in the Easy Red sector. The 40-second compilation also shows a burst in the water, an armored vehicle aboard a landing craft, two German soldiers at a machine-gun position and troops riding a truck carrying a large striped flag. |
