Ohio Woman Sentenced in Adopted Son's Death
Tamara Moore pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and endangering children and was sentenced on November 5, 2025, to 15 to 20 and a half years in prison in the death of her 16-year-old adopted son in Hamilton County, Ohio. Jeremiah Moore, known as JJ, was autistic and nonverbal. He lived with Moore, reported as 52 when she was arrested, and her longtime partner, William Turnage, reported as 56 to 58 across accounts, at a house on Belgreen Lane in Springfield Township, a suburb of Cincinnati. Springfield Township police were called to the house on February 6, 2024, for a report of a teenager unconscious and not breathing. Officers found Jeremiah dead in the basement, lying on a cot inside a small utility closet by the laundry area. He wore only a T-shirt and a soiled diaper. Restraints were fixed to the cot, and he had ligature marks on his wrists and neck. Prosecutors said a dog collar had been used to hold his head down, and the closet door had an outside lock. The room was cold, reported at around 60 degrees in one account and 56 in others. An autopsy found no food anywhere in Jeremiah's stomach or intestines. Police said he had gone without food or water for at least a week and possibly as long as a month. His death was ruled a homicide. The Springfield Township Police Department investigated for about two months. The department's lead detective called it by far the most horrific case he had handled. Moore was arrested at the Belgreen Lane home on April 12, 2024, and a murder warrant was issued for Turnage. A Hamilton County grand jury indicted Moore on two counts of murder and endangering children. Turnage was indicted on murder, involuntary manslaughter, endangering children and failure to report a crime or knowledge of a death. Turnage pleaded guilty in August 2025 to involuntary manslaughter and child endangering. The murder and failure to report counts were dropped. He agreed to testify against Moore and was sentenced on August 25, 2025, to 11 to 15 and a half years in prison. Moore pleaded not guilty, rejected an earlier plea offer and had a trial set for September 29, 2025, before entering her guilty plea. Hamilton County Common Pleas Judge Jody Luebbers imposed the maximum sentence available under Moore's agreement, a minimum of 15 years and a maximum of 20 and a half years under Ohio's indefinite sentencing law. Luebbers called it the most heinous case she had seen in 17 years on the bench. Moore told the court, "I did love my son and I'm sorry for staying in a very abusive relationship," and said she had believed Jeremiah was upstairs in the family room. No appeal has been reported as of September 2026. The video is a police interview-room recording of about 165 minutes, posted here in three parts, followed by a second recording of about 137 minutes in three further parts. It contains Moore's interviews with Springfield Township detectives, without narration or a presenter. She describes herself as an attentive mother who fed and cared for Jeremiah, an account contradicted by the scene, the autopsy and later by her co-defendant. Dates for the individual sessions were not given, and the count of three interviews comes from the uploader rather than the court record.
