Marqia Hamilton Questioned in Eloy Lebron Shooting

Marqia Angelia Hamilton and Jahria C. Shield were convicted in Orange County in the July 23, 2020 shooting death of Eloy Lebron in Orlando, Florida, and each was sentenced to five years on each of two counts.

Lebron, 41, was a flight attendant who had moved to Florida about 18 months before his death. Hamilton was 18 at the time, and Florida Department of Corrections records give her date of birth as January 13, 2002. Shield was also 18. No prior connection between the two women and Lebron has been publicly described, and no motive has been stated publicly.

Just after 12:30 p.m., Lebron was driving his 1998 Toyota Tacoma pickup south on West Anderson Street near Jernigan Avenue, close to downtown Orlando, with a friend in the passenger seat. He was found dead behind the wheel, while his passenger was unhurt. A nearby driver told police that shots were fired from another vehicle as it passed and that both Hamilton, who was the passenger, and the woman driving fired at Lebron. A passenger in a work truck said he saw the other car's driver put an arm out the window and fire a gun.

The Orlando Police Department homicide unit investigated. A camera at West Anderson Street and North Westmoreland Drive recorded a white 2004 Saturn Ion driving north, turning back toward Lebron's southbound truck and leaving the wrong way down a one way street. Footage from a McDonald's minutes earlier showed the two women in clothing matching witness descriptions. Cell phone GPS records placed both in the area when the shooting occurred.

During her police interview, Hamilton said she and the driver had gone to the area to buy marijuana, heard gunshots and drove away. She denied any involvement in the shooting. Investigators wrote in the arrest affidavit that she was deceptive about what happened during the shooting itself. A warrant was issued September 16, 2020, and Hamilton was arrested September 17, 2020, on a charge of manslaughter with a firearm, which carried up to 30 years in prison. She was booked into the Orange County jail with no bond.

Florida Department of Corrections records show both women were convicted of manslaughter by culpable negligence and discharging a firearm from a vehicle within 1,000 feet of a person, with both offenses dated July 23, 2020. Each received five years on each count on October 13, 2023. Hamilton, inmate number G42107, entered state custody November 6, 2023, with a release date of February 20, 2028. Shield, inmate number I32107, entered custody November 20, 2023, with a release date of February 16, 2028. Both are held at Lowell Correctional Institution.

Hamilton was arrested on a count of manslaughter with a firearm, while the Department of Corrections records her conviction on the lesser count of manslaughter by culpable negligence. Whether the convictions followed guilty pleas or a jury verdict has not been established.

The video is police interview-room footage running roughly 101 minutes. It presents the interview itself and opens with a short narrated introduction naming the people involved.
