Carissa Lynn Parker pleaded guilty to second-degree murder with a firearm and was sentenced to 53 years in prison for the 2019 killing of Edgar Jennings III in Okaloosa County, Florida, while Jordan Elijah Phillips received 40 years after pleading guilty to the same charge and a firearm offense.

Jennings, 35, lived in an apartment on Culp Avenue in the Fort Walton Beach area. Parker, 27 at the time, lived in Cantonment in Escambia County. She and Jennings had a daughter together and were no longer together, and she later described ongoing issues with him. Phillips, 24, lived in Pensacola. Parker told investigators she had been picking him up at his home and driving him around while he sold narcotics.

Shortly before midnight on November 19, 2019, Okaloosa County sheriff's deputies responded to several 911 calls from Culp Avenue and found Jennings dead outside a side door of his apartment with an apparent gunshot wound to the head. A nearby home surveillance camera recorded Parker's vehicle arriving about six minutes before the first call. The suspected shooter returned to the vehicle and left about a minute after the calls began.

The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office investigated the death as a homicide and traced the vehicle to Parker. With help from one of her relatives, investigators arranged a controlled telephone call with her on December 6, 2019. Parker identified the shooter as TG, whom investigators identified as Jordan Phillips, admitted driving him to the scene and discussed her ongoing issues with Jennings. She said Phillips pulled out a gun, that she was terrified and that events escalated from there.

Investigators described a follow-up interview on December 10, 2019, in which Parker said she picked Phillips up at his Pensacola home and drove him around to sell narcotics. She said he directed her to Jennings's home, both cell phones were turned off, and Phillips left the car carrying a small black gun. Parker said he returned after she heard gunshots. She drove Phillips away and did not contact law enforcement after learning Jennings was dead.

Parker was arrested in December 2019 on a charge of accessory after the fact. A warrant charged Phillips with first-degree premeditated murder, and the United States Marshals Service took him into custody in mid-December 2019. He was held at the Escambia County jail. On January 13, 2020, an Okaloosa County grand jury indicted Parker and Phillips on charges of first-degree premeditated and first-degree felony murder. Both were held without bond at the Okaloosa County jail.

Parker pleaded guilty on November 17, 2022, to second-degree murder with a firearm, which carried a maximum sentence of life in prison. She was sentenced on February 13, 2023. Accounts of the sentencing described her as having contracted the killing of her daughter's father, but she was not the shooter. Phillips also pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. His 40-year sentence, imposed in the same week of February 2023, included a mandatory minimum for the first 25 years. Neither was convicted of first-degree murder. No appeal or later development has been publicly reported.
