Marian Williams Questioned in Delia Young's Death

Delia Marie Young, 13, died in northwest Alachua County, Florida, after a beating on May 16, 2021, and her body was moved and hidden before it was recovered in early June. This recording is the sheriff's office interview of her legal guardian, Marian Glovina Williams, who attended voluntarily ten days after the death. Williams has not been convicted; the charge against her was later reduced to negligent manslaughter and her case remains unresolved.

Delia lived at a residence on Northwest 142nd Avenue in northwest Alachua County, near Gainesville. Marian Glovina Williams was her legal guardian and was described as both Delia's stepmother and aunt. Valerie Young, Williams' sister, was also described as Delia's aunt. At the time of their arrests, Williams was reported as 57 and Valerie Young as 52, though one report reversed the ages. Other children lived in the home but were not named.

Delia was reported missing on May 16, 2021, and the Alachua County Sheriff's Office circulated a missing person flier on May 19, 2021. Williams later told detectives she saw Valerie Young beating Delia with an electrical cord on the night of May 16. Williams said she intervened and Delia declined to be taken to a hospital.

Williams said she found Delia dead in her bedroom the next morning, May 17, 2021. According to detectives, the women put her body in a tote bag and drove it to a second property in La Crosse, in northern Alachua County. Williams said the body was gone when she returned to check on it and that she burned the tote bag. Deputies recovered human remains in northwest Alachua County in early June 2021, and they were identified as Delia Young on June 4, 2021.

The Alachua County Sheriff's Office conducted the investigation. Williams voluntarily attended an interview at the sheriff's office on May 26, 2021, recounting the beating, finding Delia dead, moving and hiding her body, and burning the tote bag. She placed the fatal beating on Valerie Young rather than herself. Detectives also reported that Williams told her mother the two of them "beat her unmercifully."

Williams was arrested and appeared in court on May 27, 2021, with bond set at $950,000. Valerie Young was taken into custody the same day, with bond set at $2,650,000. An Alachua County grand jury indicted both women on first-degree murder on July 14, 2021, alongside counts including neglect of a child with great bodily harm, obstruction and destruction of evidence.

Valerie Young was ruled incompetent to stand trial in July 2022. Circuit Judge David Kreider found her competent to proceed in August 2025 after a new psychological evaluation. By November 2024, the charge reported against Marian Williams was negligent manslaughter. Williams still faced negligent manslaughter and child neglect with great bodily harm when a hearing was set for January 20, 2026. No plea, trial, verdict or sentence for Williams after that date has been publicly reported. She has not been convicted. Valerie Young entered a plea of guilty or no contest on January 5, 2026, to negligent manslaughter and child neglect with great bodily harm. No sentence for her has been publicly reported.

The video is the police interview-room recording of Williams' May 26, 2021, interview. It runs about 225 minutes and is posted in four parts, presenting the interview itself without narration or a presenter.
