Lloydina McAllister Questioned in Daughter's Death

Lloydina McAllister, 42, of Kirkland, Washington, was charged in King County Superior Court with first-degree manslaughter constituting domestic violence after the death of her 10-year-old daughter, who had Type 1 diabetes.

According to charging documents, the girl's insulin pump showed high glucose readings on July 16, 2025, and she began vomiting, a sign of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA). On July 17, McAllister, her boyfriend and three children left Kirkland on a road trip toward the Oregon-California border. They went into Northern California, then turned back toward Tacoma. On the morning of July 18, McAllister texted her own mother, who worked at Mary Bridge Children's Hospital in Tacoma, that she was bringing the girl in because she was in DKA. They reached the hospital that afternoon. The girl had likely been dead for several hours, and rigor mortis had set in.

The return trip covered about 714 miles and passed 31 hospitals, according to the charging documents. Cell phone records showed no call to 911 and no search for a nearby hospital or urgent care. McAllister told police she did not call 911 or stop because a parenting plan with the girl's father barred her from taking the girl out of state, and that the girl had forgotten her test kit. Police said the girl is believed to have died from prolonged DKA after slipping into a coma.

The girl was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in February 2018. Court documents said she had been hospitalized four times for DKA, most recently on May 18, 2025. After that stay, medical professionals retrained McAllister on the girl's insulin pump and the life-threatening risk of prolonged high blood sugar. Between 2019 and 2021, hospital staff and a school employee contacted Washington's Department of Children, Youth and Families with concerns about the girl's diabetes care.

A Child Protective Services referral reached Kirkland police on July 24, 2025. Charging documents said McAllister searched online for ways to lower blood sugar quickly in the hours before the girl died. About a week after the death, she searched whether police investigate sudden death from diabetes and whether she would need a lawyer. Kirkland detectives arrested her on November 4, 2025, on suspicion of first-degree manslaughter.

During questioning, a detective tells McAllister investigators have the girl's medical records, pump and glucose-monitor data and the family's cell phone records. He confronts her with phone data placing the family near Sacramento, although she and her boyfriend had said they went only to the Oregon-California border. McAllister answers that she was driving and did not know how far south they had gone, and that she turned around to reach a Washington hospital she knew could treat her daughter. Pressed about the roughly 72 hours the girl's blood sugar stayed high and who was responsible for her care, McAllister answers that she was. The detective tells her a judge has signed an arrest warrant for first-degree manslaughter, that she will be booked into the King County jail that day, and that she may not contact her other children except under supervision.

McAllister pleaded not guilty on November 13, 2025, and was ordered held on $1 million bail, with no contact with her two surviving children except supervised visits. Reports in November 2025 said a trial was scheduled to begin in late December 2025. No trial, plea change or sentence has been reported since. She is presumed innocent of the charge. As of November 1, 2026, she remains in custody in King County awaiting trial, with bail listed at $500,000.
