Jesse Huy pleaded guilty to six charges and received three consecutive life terms without parole after shooting his wife and her parents to death at their home in Strafford, Missouri, on March 19, 2021.

Huy and his wife, Tonya F. Huy, 48, lived on North Farm Road 249 in Strafford, in Greene County. Her parents, Ronald L. Koehler, 71, and Linda J. Koehler, 78, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, had driven to Missouri to help her recover from back surgery. Linda Koehler stayed in the house, while Ronald Koehler stayed in a recreational vehicle on the property. Huy later said he had been waiting about a week for them to leave.

Huy shot all three in the head as they sat at the kitchen table. He called Greene County authorities that evening and reported that he had just killed three people. Asked why, he told the dispatcher: "Well, they wouldn't leave. I've been waiting for a week for them to leave. I've had enough." He said he would not resist when deputies arrived.

Greene County deputies took Huy into custody at the scene after he reported the killings himself. A 9mm handgun was recovered from his truck on the property.

During a later interview with detectives, Huy said he felt intruded on and disrespected because his in-laws would not leave. He said his wife sided with her parents and told him she owned half of the house. Huy said he went outside after an argument, got his gun and shot all three in under a minute.

Huy described a personal code under which he would tolerate being disrespected three times before he would, in his words, fix that problem. He expressed little remorse, saying, "I wish I hadn't been put in that position."

The Greene County prosecutor charged Huy with three counts of first degree murder and three counts of armed criminal action. In October 2022, with a jury seated and opening statements about to begin, he changed his plea to guilty on all six counts without a plea agreement. On January 13, 2023, Judge Thomas Mountjoy, who had retired since the plea and returned to the bench for the hearing, sentenced Huy to three life terms without the possibility of parole for the murders and nine years on each armed criminal action count. All sentences were ordered to run consecutively. No appeal has been reported.
