Alexandria Nicole Flores Questioned in Chappell Killing

Alexandria Nicole Flores pleaded guilty to murder and was sentenced to 35 years in prison in the killing of Brittany Chappell, a 30-year-old Fort Worth, Texas-area mother known as Pearl.

Chappell, the mother of two young children, met Albert Ray Martinez Jr., 29, at an east Fort Worth game room in September 2015. He invited her to the small apartment he shared with Flores, 22, his father, Albert Martinez Sr., 60, and Flores's young child. Jeremy Myers, 23, lived nearby and was Martinez Jr.'s neighbor.

Chappell was taken to the apartment and given methamphetamine and GHB, according to the Texas appellate opinion later issued in Martinez Sr.'s case. Police said Martinez Jr., Myers and Flores held her against her will, beat her and suffocated her, first with a bag over her head and then with a shower curtain Myers brought from the bathroom after she tore a hole in the bag.

The following day, her body was wrapped in carpet, carried through the apartment's back door and loaded into Flores's SUV. A Fort Worth patrol officer found the body burning on September 28, 2015, in a field in the 3500 block of South Cravens Road near Lake Arlington. It was burned beyond recognition. Investigators released descriptions of her tattoos, nose stud and dental work before she was identified in October 2015.

Surveillance video from a Shell station on East Berry Street showed Martinez Jr. and Flores buying gas with change and appearing nervous about 29 minutes before the body was found. By late October 2015, four people were in custody. Martinez Jr., Myers and Flores were charged with capital murder. Myers was initially jailed in Baltimore, Maryland, while Flores had been sought on a capital murder warrant with a 500,000 dollar bond. Brian Thompson, 32, was charged with tampering with evidence.

Flores gave this interview to Fort Worth police detectives after her arrest in October 2015. She described what happened in the apartment while presenting herself as acting under Martinez Jr.'s control. The appellate opinion states that she told detectives everything that had happened, identified those involved and later testified for the State. The exact date of the recorded interview is not stated in the reporting located.

Flores was 24 at sentencing. Albert Martinez Jr. was sentenced to life in prison for capital murder. Jeremy Myers, the last of five defendants convicted, was sentenced to life on January 12, 2018, at age 25. Albert Martinez Sr. was convicted of tampering with or fabricating physical evidence, a human corpse, and sentenced to five years. The Fifth Court of Appeals affirmed his conviction on May 30, 2018, in Martinez v. State, No. 05-17-00817-CR. Brian Thompson was sentenced to seven years. Ages reported for the defendants differ between the 2015 arrest coverage and the 2018 sentencing coverage. No later development in any of the five cases has been publicly reported.

The video is a police interview-room recording that runs about 64 minutes. It contains the interview itself and opens with a short narrated introduction naming the people involved.
