Eyionna Leary was sentenced on October 23, 2023, after being convicted in the April 2, 2020, shooting death of 50-year-old Leslie Lawson at her home in Forest Park, Ohio.

Lawson was shot and fatally wounded at approximately 2:00 a.m. in the doorway of her home on Geneva Road. According to court documents, two men approached the residence, and one knocked on the door claiming he had been injured in a car accident and needed help. Lawson was shot when she opened the door.

A personal dispute had developed between Leary, then 22, and members of the Lawson family. Leary allegedly became involved with Timothy Williams and Kerwin Heard in connection with the conflict. Police and prosecutors later stated that the attack had been planned in advance through text messages arranging details including the address and timing.

In the weeks after the shooting, Williams, then 16, and Heard turned themselves in to the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office. Investigators determined that Williams was the shooter and Heard was involved as the driver.

Leary was arrested in February 2021. Court documents and police affidavits cited text messages in which she allegedly provided the address, encouraged the act, and coordinated details of the plan. She was initially charged with complicity to aggravated murder, and a grand jury later added counts of aggravated murder and murder.

Williams pleaded guilty to manslaughter and evidence tampering in June 2021 and was sentenced to 17 years in prison. Heard later pleaded guilty to manslaughter with a gun specification and aggravated assault and was sentenced to 15 years. Leary was convicted of involuntary manslaughter, felonious assault, and tampering with evidence. She received an aggregate sentence of approximately 14 to 19.5 years, plus an additional 3-year term, and remains incarcerated at Dayton Correctional Institution, with expected release eligibility around 2037.
