A Monroe County jury convicted Skavon Andrews of criminally negligent homicide in the shooting death of her husband, Rawleigh Andrews, outside their Greece, New York, home on September 20, 2022, while finding her not guilty of second-degree murder and manslaughter.

Skavon, then 68, and Rawleigh, 72, had been married for more than 40 years and lived at 549 Vintage Lane in Greece, near Rochester. Rawleigh had moved from South Carolina about 30 years earlier after meeting Skavon. Neighbors and relatives described them as a pleasant, loving couple with no known prior problems or conflicts.

Their son, Trevino "Shantea" Andrews, an Army veteran and father of three, had died suddenly at home on or about June 21, 2022, roughly three months earlier. Family members expressed complete shock after Rawleigh's death and could identify no motive. Police statements, family accounts and court proceedings established no ongoing domestic disputes, financial issues or other conflicts.

Officers responded just before 2:40 p.m., after Rawleigh was found dead in the driveway shortly after 2:30 p.m. He had been shot in the head, with court documents specifically referencing his right cheek. Skavon was accused of shooting him with a rifle. A search warrant led police to recover a rifle from the home that was believed to be the weapon used.

Greece Police detained Skavon as a person of interest and interviewed her in an interview room. She was charged with second-degree murder, arraigned in Greece Town Court, pleaded not guilty and was held without bail in Monroe County Jail. Police called the death Greece's first homicide of 2022 and said there was no ongoing threat to the community.

Police referenced security-camera video from the residence. Public reports provided limited details about inconsistencies in statements or other digital or physical evidence beyond the rifle and findings at the scene. They also did not extensively detail calculated long-term planning or evidence tampering. The shooting occurred in the afternoon on a residential street.

The trial was held in Monroe County Supreme Court, with jury deliberations reported around August 21, 2023, and the proceedings included manslaughter-related considerations. Prosecutors argued that the shooting was intentional. The defense maintained it was an accident involving negligence with the weapon and that Skavon did not fully appreciate the consequences of her actions with the gun. On September 22, 2023, Skavon, then 69, was sentenced to 1 to 3 years in prison.
