Dalia Dippolito Convicted in Murder-for-hire Plot (JCS)

Dalia Dippolito was sentenced to 16 years in Florida state prison after a third jury convicted her in June 2017 of soliciting the murder of her husband, Michael Dippolito, in Boynton Beach, Florida, in 2009.

In the late summer of 2009, about six months after the couple married, Dippolito asked a former lover, Mohamed Shihadeh, to help her find someone to kill her husband. Shihadeh at first resisted, then went to the Boynton Beach Police Department.

Police arranged for an undercover officer to pose as a hitman. Dippolito was recorded on audio and video telling him she was "5,000 percent sure" she wanted her husband dead.

Detectives staged a crime scene at the couple's home and called her there as if her husband had been killed. They filmed her reaction before taking her to the station, where she was questioned and confronted with the recordings. The television program Cops was embedded with the department during the sting, and the footage became some of the most widely viewed courtroom material of the decade.

Dippolito was charged with solicitation to commit first-degree murder. Her first trial in 2011 ended in conviction and a 20-year sentence, but an appeals court ordered a new trial. The 2016 retrial ended with the jury split 3 to 3, and the third trial in June 2017 produced the conviction that stands. Her lawyers have continued to seek a new trial.

The video is a narrated analysis by JCS - Criminal Psychology that runs about 50 minutes and covers the sting recordings, staged crime scene and station-house interview. The narration examines the suspect's behavior and the detectives' technique over interview-room footage; it is not raw footage.
