Ashley Jones Questioned in Harold Allen's Poisoning
Ashley Jones pleaded guilty on September 24, 2025, to conspiracy to commit murder resulting in death and attempted murder in the poisoning of her stepfather, Harold Allen, and received a 50-year sentence in the Indiana Department of Correction. Harold Allen, 52, was known as Peanut and lived in Freetown, Jackson County, Indiana. He was married to Marsha Allen. Jones, reported as 29 or 30 years old, was Marsha Allen's adult daughter and Harold Allen's stepdaughter. According to the probable cause affidavit, text messages between Marsha Allen and Jones showed they discussed poisoning Harold Allen beginning in late 2022. The messages described plant toxins put into brownies, chili, a soda and a margarita on several dates in November and December 2022. Harold Allen became ill and made hospital visits. Ethylene glycol, a component of antifreeze, was ordered online on December 13, 2022. Harold Allen was given a root beer float on December 20, 2022. The Jackson County Sheriff's Department was called about an unconscious person in Freetown, but reports said he was believed to have died before the emergency call was placed. The affidavit said several hours passed before the call. His death was initially treated as natural, with no foul play suspected. On September 19, 2023, Marsha Allen called deputies to report a burglary at her home. Steven White and Nathaniel Napier were identified as suspects, and Jones was later reported to have been involved in arranging the break-in. White told investigators that Marsha Allen had killed her husband by poisoning him. Deputies obtained her phone with her consent and found the messages between her and Jones. Marsha Allen was questioned first, for about four to five hours according to the detective in the recording, on or about October 15 or 16, 2023. She was found dead at her home on October 16, 2023, in what was reported as a suspected suicide. She was never charged. Jones was interviewed in custody the next day, October 17, 2023. After a detective read her her rights and asked about the ethylene glycol order, she said she had ordered it and that her mother put it in Harold Allen's food and drink. Jones was charged with two counts of murder, conspiracy to commit murder (Level 1 felony), consumer product tampering (Level 4 felony) and two counts of attempted murder (Level 1 felony). Prosecutor Jeffrey Chalfant sought life imprisonment without parole, and a jury trial was set for January 7, 2025. Jones later pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit murder resulting in death and one count of attempted murder, both Level 1 felonies. Which counts were dismissed under the plea was not stated in the sources found. The video is a police interview-room recording that runs about 114 minutes and contains both interviews. It presents the interviews themselves and opens with a short narrated introduction naming the people involved.
