Antonetta Stevens Interviewed in Bocanegra Death
Antonetta Stevens, 27, and Janine Gonzalez, 17, pleaded guilty to manslaughter and robbery and were each sentenced to 20 years in prison after an August 11, 2022 attack on Ashley Bocanegra in Gwinnett County, Georgia, that left her fatally injured. Bocanegra, a 30-year-old mother from Buford, was lured to the women's apartment complex near the 2900 block of Buford Drive with a message sent from a man's phone, police said. The man had been involved with Bocanegra and Stevens, who was engaged to him. Gonzalez, of Buffalo, New York, was his sister. Later reporting identified him as Daniel Gonzalez. He was not charged. Stevens and Gonzalez attacked Bocanegra and took her cellphone during the assault. Bocanegra reached a hospital with severe injuries and died a few hours later. The autopsy found that blunt force trauma ruptured an adrenal gland and caused internal bleeding. At a September 22, 2022 court hearing, prosecutors presented video the women had recorded. Police testified that it showed Stevens starting the fight and Gonzalez filming and kicking Bocanegra about three times. Stevens asked Gonzalez, "Do you want any of this?" and Gonzalez answered, "I do." Initial reporting attributed the lines "I'm going to murder you," said about five times, "Are you ready to die?" and "I could do worse" to Gonzalez. A later account attributed a similar threat to Stevens instead. Bocanegra later texted the man, "I was fine until your sister kicked me in the chest and back area." Officers found Stevens, Gonzalez and the man at an apartment in the complex. The man acknowledged that he had been involved with Bocanegra. Detectives recovered video of the assault from a phone and cellphone records showing that the messages luring Bocanegra had come from his phone. Before she died, Bocanegra told police she had been waiting for a ride when two women she did not know attacked her. Stevens initially described the attack as self-defense when questioned. Both women were arrested on charges of felony murder, aggravated battery and robbery and held without bond. Gonzalez was prosecuted in adult court, and her lawyers argued at the September 2022 hearing that her charge should be reduced to involuntary manslaughter. Neither case went to trial. Accounts differ on whether the manslaughter conviction was involuntary or voluntary and whether the pleas were entered in 2023 or 2024. The plea and sentencing date is unconfirmed. Both women remained in prison as of August 2026. The roughly 89-minute upload contains about 88 minutes of Gwinnett County Police Department interview-room recording and opens with a short narrated introduction naming the people involved. It presents two interviews: Stevens' interrogation, during which she asks for a lawyer, continues talking and is later read the full list of charges, and an interview with the man at the center of the case, who describes the attack to detectives as an assault by strangers.

Re: Antonetta Stevens Interviewed in Bocanegra Death
Janine Gonzalez, who was 17, was arrested and charged with felony murder, aggravated battery and robbery in the August 11, 2022 killing of Ashley Bocanegra in Buford, Georgia, and was prosecuted in adult court. Gonzalez was the sister of the man both Bocanegra and Antonetta Stevens were involved with. She was arrested with Stevens. At a September 22, 2022 hearing, Gonzalez's lawyers argued that the charge against her should be reduced to involuntary manslaughter. Video recorded on a phone at the scene was played at the hearing and, according to a report of police testimony, showed Gonzalez kicking Bocanegra about three times. The recording shows Gonzalez alone in the interrogation room for roughly the first hour before detectives enter. She describes the attack as a fight and is then told that Bocanegra had died. The roughly 52-minute video is the second Gwinnett County Police Department interrogation from the case and consists of the police interview-room recording itself. It begins with a short narrated introduction naming the people involved.
