Alexander Lee Rogers Questioned in Dawn Peters Killing
Alexander Lee Rogers, 51, was sentenced to just under 42 years in prison on December 4, 2025, after Dawn Peters, 64, was killed and Andrew Peters, 73, was seriously wounded at their Longview, Washington, home. Dawn Peters lived with relatives, including Andrew Peters, also known as Leroy, at the home off Terumi Lane near the Mint Valley Golf Course in Cowlitz County. Rogers, of Longview, had done occasional work for Peters and her household. Online records reportedly showed that he had recently completed more than 20 years in prison for attacking two people with a machete and stealing their car. According to reports, Rogers asked for money on August 5, 2025, and was refused. He then cut Andrew Peters's throat and attacked Dawn Peters, who collapsed in the dining room. Andrew Peters pressed a medical alert button on the living room wall and spoke to a dispatcher. Rogers left, Dawn Peters died at the scene, and Andrew Peters survived. Police named Rogers as the suspect and sought him across state lines. Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies found his black BMW abandoned in a Calabasas, California, parking lot. A security guard recognized Rogers near Lafayette Park in the Westlake District of Los Angeles and called 911, leading to his arrest on August 12, 2025. He was later returned to Washington. Officers interviewed Rogers after his Los Angeles arrest. They challenged his claim that he had taken a bus to Los Angeles, telling him they knew he had driven the BMW, and questioned him about his phone. Rogers initially gave a different account, then acknowledged putting the phone in a garbage can. He denied involvement in the killing and asked for an officer, saying he wanted to see video of what he was accused of or a murder weapon. In September 2025, Rogers pleaded not guilty in Cowlitz County Superior Court to first-degree murder of Dawn Peters and first-degree attempted murder of Andrew Peters, each with a deadly weapon enhancement. How the case was resolved between the not guilty plea and sentencing, including whether he pleaded guilty and to which charges, has not been publicly confirmed. No appeal has been reported. The video is a police interview-room recording that runs about 91 minutes. It presents the interview itself and opens with a short narrated introduction naming the people involved.
