Re: Various Different Women Shown in Their Casket

Why bring the kids in to gawk at the deceased? Morbid curiosity? IMO, children of that age are too young to be exposed to bodies lying in caskets. It's not to show respect for the dead or respect for the living family members either or to say their last goodbyes. A photograph of the deceased to show to the kids would suffice. Children need to understand life and death, but not like this-[hovering over the body and touching it].

Chipotle will get you every time...

Should kids really be subjected to an open casket funeral? I never went to one...
I went to my grandfathers as a child, it was odd to me, for that age, about 8 years old, but nothing damaging... unless you count me coming to this site daily.

I respectfully disagree. In many cases, it creates a much better sense of closure and inner peace by tangibly experiencing the loved ones' departure than to have the person magically disappear and be replaced by a photograph.

Of course there are situations where a viewing is inappropriate and potentially traumatizing, such as if the deceased is mangled beyond recognition, but in a case where the deceased is reasonably presentable (such has in this particular case), I believe families should take the precious opportunity to say their goodbyes face-to-face. Unfamiliarity with death only increases the fear and denial towards it.

It depends on the ******* and how death is treated in their society at large, but most importantly how their circle of immediate family and friends treat death.

Re: Various Different Women Shown in Their Casket

What a gorgeous woman! Wow! I'm not sure if I agree with not tell her, but maybe it is for the best that she didn't know? It means she wouldn't go a-wall because she knew 'death' was looming. I think she did a great job living a normal life and enjoyed it. Very sad news, but such is life. May she rest in peace.

Re: Various Different Women Shown in Their Casket

^^ & ^^^
I think the same thing about understanding "DEATH", could be accomplished with saying their goodbyes with the loss of a beloved pet. Expose them to death with that. Now maybe I would rethink my position if it involved a really close relative, say a parent or sibling. I have attended viewings and funerals where the children were disruptive. Not blaming the kids, they just did not understand appropriate behavior. And like ya'll state, culture and tradition.
