Why do autopsy cases usually look swollen?

Few reasons really....

* More time goes by between time of death and embalming. Instead of hours we are now into days plus refrigeration.

* The Body is cold/frozen which means that the blood will not drain as readily. That leads to blockage and the tissues will swell.

* The solutions used tend to be on the stronger side which tend to make the tissues embalmed Extremely Firm. So it's typical on autopsy cases that the hands and arms are both swollen and rock solid.

* The plumbing is essentially gone and All properly preformed autopsy embalmings require a minimum of six points of injection.
