Suicide is common during the holidays. And honestly I don't see any reason why this girl would be a challenge to emblem because she died of suffocation? The challenging ones would be the old, diseased or a very over weight person. I'm a licensed embalmer and funeral director and has done both funerals and anatomical embalming for science.

Pics are definitely real. I'm actually quite familiar with this case. I believe I've got her autopsy report on file here somewhere. She was part of a rash of teen suicides in her area; something like three of them hung themselves in a very short period of time in a small, rural locale.

This one hung herself in a tree by a stream, if I recall. There was a whole website set up by her friends, romanticizing her death and how peaceful it was and how happy she must be now, etc. One of the people involved in finding her made a blog post condemning the web page for being ignorant and encouraging other potential suicides. I know part of his blog mentioned that she looked terrible when she was found: her tongue protruding, blood coming from her nose, and she'd visibly soiled her pants while dying. He caught flak for posting so many unpleasant details, but maintained that he was right to do so given how many people were talking up her suicide as a peaceful, acceptable choice.

Anyway, they cleaned her up fairly well for the funeral, all things considered, given how bad he said she looked.

That's terrible! Why would they glamorize her death? Did the suicides stop when the teens were confronted with the reality of her horrific death?

It sounds like they did a very good job preparing her given what you have described.

I think the suicide rate slowed regardless of the guy's remarks. And if I recall, her friends were glamorizing it in the not-atypical fashion of trying to convince themselves that she was at peace and no longer 'suffering', etc. It's been a few years (I believe she died four or five years ago), so I don't remember all of the details, just bits and pieces.

'Rashes' of suicides, especially among youth, are not particularly uncommon. Even without people glamorizing the action on Facebook, it tends to create triggers to galvanize similar action in those inclined. I know there's a college campus down in Texas that had something like 4 or 5 in a very short period of time, all in the same two dorms.

Human herd instinct, maybe. Who knows. I'm not suicidal and never have been. While I've studied hundreds of autopsy reports and suicide scenes, the psychology behind it all remains largely inscrutable to me.
