US Army Killing Japanese Mortally Wounded Soldiers
They had to that to be sure they're dead as many marines lost their life after many Japanese soldiers played dead hiding a gun or grenade under their body being ready for a last "surprise".

Awesome video. It was two fold as those sneaky bastards killed many a US Marine by playing dead. Not only did killing the mortally wounded ensure there would be no surprises, it also spared them a lot of agony which is all you can do in that situation.
