Re: Russian/Ukraine War Discussion Thread V
I rarely say anything to you about your comments. When I said "I don't want to see any bitching about this clip" it was supposed to be more of a funny comment than something serious. We all have plenty of more important things to worry about than what someone in here says. I know you know that. My biggest issue across the board (not just with you) is the nonchalant, smart assed, comedic jokes in the media thread about the all the deaths. All differences aside... we're all subjects of our government. Both sides are being sent to fight for the will of a government and their dying for it. In my opinion, one government is being more underhanded and dishonest about it but there's plenty to bitch about on both sides. I understand the frustration about how much money and aid our government is pouring into this as well. I have mixed feelings about it myself. Sometimes its just hard to fathom all the money that's being used for it when there are so many issues within our country that need to be fixed. Its important for us to support our allies and try to help prevent tyrannical governments from trying to take what's not theirs. Having said that, sometimes its hard to say things like that with a straight face as well, after what my country has done in the past. For me, it's about balancing all that rationally without driving myself crazy. I can feel however I want to feel about it, but there is little I can do to change any of it. Also, I am fully conscious (and grateful) for the fact that compared to whats going on in Ukraine and even Russia right now for civilians... my worries are nothing. Its really easy for me to feel how I feel in the comfort of my safe and secure home so this whole thing puts a lot into perspective for me. Attempting to put myself, even in my mind, in the shoes of the innocent people on both sides of this is what keeps me centered. The political aspects of it all are important to stay conscious of. But keeping it human is what keeps me sane and grounded.

Critical observation of my community, social politics in country I live and factual historical truths are not whining. It's realism. Realism pushes us to destroy bad concepts. Personally can live in way worst conditions. btw. yeah coastline, and coastline = strong tourism. But sad is the country that relies on only one branch of industry. |

Re: Russian/Ukraine War Discussion Thread V
Stop reading when I heard about "Ukrainian appreciating it". Croatian people should come first for our government. I already laid out numerous things that our government ignores and it affects our people. Also during our struggle for independence Ukrainians did ... nothing. So I don't feel obligated to do anything for them even though I did (almost lost my head and I give them money trough my taxes). btw. they already swarmed Croatia, regularly have really nice cars. We also busted oil smuggling ring sponsored by Ukrainians xD I don't think USA will protect me from anything. And we always had good tourism Schengen or not. Tourism depends mostly on buying power of guests that come visit us. Most powerful days of our tourism was during 1972 till 1981/2. No conspiracy theory. Basically what EU says our government obeys. If they say "Jump doggie, jump over the bridge" - no problem. As I said we are ruled by few people that are constantly fighting for that seat in Brusseles. Every day we have at least one corruption scandal involving ruling party. Now you gonna ask me "Why don't you change them". I ask myself the same question but one man can't do shit and also keep in mind that they sterilized us from voting. And when we did, on first round of referendum for example for EU we voted against and then they said it's "not regular" (xD) and did it again and somehow it went trough like 49%-51% or something to that effect. Anyways even little kids knew it was rigged. Maybe this concept is unknown to you people because you are not used to that kind of corruption or USA is way better of hiding it from it's own people. |

Re: Russian/Ukraine War Discussion Thread V
Funny I can remember the days of the holiday programs always selling Yugoslavia as a beautiful place to go visit. Extremely highly in the UK at least. Many a program I saw saying how it was such a nice place to visit. Then there was the war and the terrible things that happened. Then nato bombing the shit out of some of them to stop the bloodshed. Suddenly it was Serbia and Croatia and Yugoslavia was a distant memory.I was just a kid then. I’m almost 50 now. Time goes so quickly and as a kid I remember growing up in fear of being nuked. My eyeballs melting etc. not nice for a young teen to think about. Cold War bullshit of the 80s. Reagan and Gobachev achieving great things on tv. Then the Berlin Wall collapsed and everything seems to look for the better. Then Kuwait. Then 9/11 and Iraq. And things have just seemed to get worse as I got older. I actually have that feeling again I had as a kid thinking it might just become so that my eyeballs may just get the chance to get melted out of their sockets the way things are going. It’s like no one really learned the lessons of World War Two. Or we did but it seems that bombing the shit out of each other always seems to be the answer. My dicks bigger than yours. World populations and doubled. We are losing our animals at a rate of knots the planet is heating up and all our governments can think of is better ways to spend all these billions on fucking each other up. If only all the money spent on weapons and one up was spent on us all among this world a better place humans could achieve so much. I honestly think in my life time we are closer to the end than ever. Not a single lesson learned. We’ll always have dictators. I used to think Putin was a clever guy. In the fact he was surrounded by the wests missiles and yet he still remained quite calm really. Now I think he’s at an age where he has nothing to lose. He’s got st best 20 years left. He isn’t going to have. A problem pressing that button if he loses this war. And everything that comes with that. Perhaps it will be a good thing. In my lifetime our population has doubled wildlife has dwindled by 6o-70 percent. Time so rapidly running out for us. We are a virus and the sooner we self cull the better. Justify it in anyway we like. Protecting the world against the likes of Putin and stopping him taking over one country or another. But at the end of the day. We are all fucked be sue if the way these clowns run the world. I suppose I should feel lucky I’m in the UK and cushioned a bit. And in the event of the worst happening also be the first to go in any major event. The more I think about it the more I see a bad ending to all of this. We live in one fucked up tiny world. Who would have thought. Billions of years of evolution and all we seem to do it is fuck things up even more as each day passes. The politicians aren’t suffering. Normal people are. All for a handful of Motherfuckers who think they know best. Anyway yea. Mind fart over. Yugoslavia . “ once a lovely sought after place to visit on holiday. Never did recover I guess. Really. Still. Lovely beaches tho What wa so talking about again. Peace and good goth . |

Re: Russian/Ukraine War Discussion Thread V
And how is Ukrainian-sponsored oil smuggling ring worse than locally sponsored oil smuggling rings ? There are Croatian drug lords/car thieves etc committing crimes in other countries too. Good doesn't mean it is the best, or cant be better. Joining Schengen will create more tourism, so the industry can expand. It will bring more money into the country etc. Tourism doesn't depend only on the ticket price. It also depends on the ease of travel, good reputation, lack of visa hassle, etc. I and many of my relatives have traveled alot in EU countries, solely because it's so easy. Hop on a bus/train/plane and go. What has the EU said that the government obeyed against its will? Create a list and provide sources plz. What are the EU orders for Croatia that are so bad? EU's demands on worker rights? EU demands on clean environment? EU demands on food safety? EU bans on carcinogens, chemical pollution and safety requirements for industries? And which EU officials are those "few people". What countries are they from? What are their names? I have a hunch that what you are trying to sell here as "EU Hegemony" over Croatia is actually just "Croatian hegemony" over Croatians. You are trying to pass Croatian corruption scandals as "EU corruption scandals" I'll say it again. The power of EU comes from its large bureaucracy. It dilutes power so much, that it becomes very difficult for corporations to bribe officials. Even worse...EU power positions rotate. Any politician who argues against the EU is doing so for his own personal gain. Top politicians hate to share power. They don't want oversight. That's why the most corrupt politicians also blame EU. |

Re: Russian/Ukraine War Discussion Thread V
Ukrainian has a "civil" conversation with an old brainwashed Russian I'm not happy that this war is a reality, but there is a silver lining. These morons are in full focus. A few of these somehow exist here on DR. |
