Deserters are to be shot on sight. They were never going to drag the deserters back to base and execute them there. The decision was made and the result is what you see. Russians are specifically instructed to capture troops alive if possible, both for exchange and PR.

- Looks like the Ukranians are using cluster munitions packed with butterfly mines. These PFM-1S mines are based on the American BLU-43. While this is against the Convention on Cluster Munitions treaty, both Ukraine and Russia are not signatory to this.
