The Russian Defense Ministry acknowledged the death of 63 servicemen in occupied Makiivka. They stated that they were hit by HIMARS on New Year's Eve.

Local social media and Russian "military commanders" wrote that on the night of January 1, the strike destroyed vocational school No. 19, where Russian military were stationed.

The Strategic Communications Department of the Ukrainian Armed Forces claimed that about 400 people were killed. Local publics wrote that up to 600 invaders could have died. The occupation authorities spoke only about several dozen wounded.
