Yes, geolocation is definitely something that I've seen used prolifically in this war... by military forces, OSINT community, and journalist/bloggers. Ukraine Ministry of Defense has strict guidelines (and some laws) about "Operational Security" (aka OPSEC) during this war.

It's something I've become quite familiar with since streaming live cams from Ukraine. At first it wasn't really a problem... but in March of this year, they really started cracking down on it and several live cameras were shut down throughout country by the authorities. A couple civilians who ran cameras that I came to know filled me in on how seriously they were enforcing it.

Then you started hearing about whole groups of soldiers getting wiped out (mostly Russian) who were being careless about selfies and video's they were posting that allowed the other side to narrow down their locations. Ukrainian authorities were often using this as an example of why these guidelines are so important.

There were a couple of incidents where foreign press members were briefed of the opsec guidelines by authorities... but disregarded it. One case where a Dutch journalist immediately went with a film crew to the location of a shelling in Odesa... showing first responders, civilians and the location of what was hit within the first few minutes it happened and posted it on social media. A couple of hours later his hotel room was raided by authorities, his passport stamped ineligible to return to Ukraine for 10 years and he was driven to the border of Moldovia.

Another journalist (can't remember the publication she worked for) posted a photo of the same shelling (with skyline view) from her hotel window. She was immediately berated on Twitter for posting it, eventually deleted the photo but was also shown the door.

There's never too much information, especially in a war zone as intel is everything, from civies or combatants, it doesn't matter BUT what matters is the time element as to assess the situation & the reaction time to the potential threat or tasking needs to be 110% as the fronts can change in a split second & no good reacting when there's no threat left & using up valuable resources. Timing is paramount & this is now turning into a war of attrition IMO & unfortunately, as such, you can bet that this will go on for some time yet & many more will perish because of one man's greedy & sick USSR ideology.

The first ever video of the combat use by Ukrainian soldiers of the US-made 155 mm DPICM cluster projectile against Russian occupiers near Bakhmut. Video from the aerial reconnaissance unit "Madyar" for December 16. The DPICM projectile (dual-purpose improved conventional ammunition) works like this: the fuse is set in time for an air blast over the target, and a circle within a radius of 150 meters is covered with 88 submunitions, each of which fires hundreds of ready-made striking darts. Cluster shells are especially effective against targets in open areas, in this case the Ukrainians precisely corrected the gap just above the trench with Russian infantrymen. Russia is actively using cluster shells to shell Ukrainian cities in order to hit as much as possible not only the military, but also the civilian population.
