Yeah, there was actually a lot of attempts. There's a picture of old man Tito going to a meeting with pirate type of eye patch after some Soviet wanted to kill him.

I'm not sure about whole "22 attempts" but at least 10 times are recorded.

What is strange though after Tito sent him that letter Stalin died. OK I won't stretch it that far that OZNA did it but it's weird that he decided to hit the bucket right then.
