That's because Vietnam and Iraq and Afghanistan weren't wars that were designed to be won. They were wars that were designed to persist because they generate a lot of income for the military-insustrialists in the private sector. Same shit Eisenhower tried to warn us about. As for the War Of 1812, well, every country has an off-year every now and then. That was one of ours. At least it didn't last from 1929 until 1946, like *some* other countries I know... :-\ |

Yes, in a way it is, but the phenomenon is bigger than the fate of America. It appears that what is called "Western Civilization" as a whole is collapsing. It is interesting to speculate what the successor regime will be like. That is, if there is a successor. Global anarchy and continuous warfare between petty regimes are on the table as possibilities, not to mention the complete, universal implosion of modern civilization. The death throes of the beast could result in massive destruction. I've got a fair chance of croaking prior to that, but certainly no guarantee.

I have no problem with that. We can pull back to our own borders and just keep the needed personnel stationed in countries that don't actually hate us. But I don't see our country as a whole going anywhere for a very long time.

That's nothing compared to what gets spent (or lost, as if there's a difference) in corporate welfare. The soldiers and the SNAP/section 8 crowd are getting the scraps. If you *really* wanna see who in this country is living high on the taxpayers' hog, look up a list of banks and Fortune 500 companies. Even the Congressional parasites in D.C. are mere dogs begging at the table compared to our ever-expanding rogues' gallery of private-sector robber-barons. Shoot the elephant in the room first, *then* worry about the mice. |
