1. I doubt this is real, it looks like some computer game, and I doubt a professional serviceman would so cavalier and enjoy this and use the 'words' he did. If he really did, he should never be let near a weapon ever ever again.

2. He, like most others (barring conscription) CHOSE their occupation. He CHOSE to do that, so someone that knowingly signs up to invade other countries (there should be no 'defending' needed however America chose to invade countries first, so any pushback is their own fault) and pick up weapons and kill people. Why else would you choose that occupation unless you wanted to feel macho and special and feel like a tough guy hero?
No. My THANKS go to REAL heroes, such as ambulance medics, firefighters etc. Those are the real people on the frontline who defend Americans. Not the attention-seeking hero macho-wannabes.

Obviously this conflict is not about individuals. You cannot apply those individualist ideals to groups.

When in a group, terrorist or an armed service, you are treated as a representative of that group because you are an acting member of that group. (You seem to understand that part, judging by your comment about 'Same as the nuts and their attacks on us...') You can't look at conflicts in terms of 'hate' either. It's war. It's one group of ideals competing with another.

It's just plain impossible, and frankly quite foolish, for our armed forces members to even think of trying to deal with the other side as individuals. To scale it down, that would be like a football team trying to focus on one individual of the other team at a time when the goal is to block the entire opposing team from reaching your quarterback so your team can make a touchdown. That logic just does NOT work when dealing with an entire group of individuals working toward the same goal, be it football team or opposing army or terrorist group.

I could go on and on but I'm sure this very brief overview will suffice to explain why your thoughts just don't apply to the current (or any) conflict between large groups...
