Re: Pakistan Declares Open War Against Taliban in Afghanistan

Very Interesting! I go to a LOT of Indian movies (From India, not the Native American folks) and inevitably, their evil guys are Pakistani, and they are working with the Taliban to do their evil deeds. The movies are VERY heavy on Indian Patriotism, and disdain for the Evil Pakistanis and equally Evil Taliban, who are Pakistan's trained organ monkees. Obviously they are largely slanted towards Indian villagers, with scant or no education, but there HAVE been some REALLY GOOD ONES, such as the one about the Indian effort to land on Mars. (Russia has crashed 14 landers before success, the U.S. crashed 10 or 12. The Indians managed to land successfully on their first attempt, but it was touch and go.) Understandably, they were very proud of this accomplishment.

Also, the action sequences blow U.S. movies right out of the water. When there is a bus crash, they focus on EACH PASSENGER, one at a time, showing them being destroyed in the accident, with plenty of screeching metal and shattering glass, and a LOT of slow-motion photography.

I also do what I call the "Kiss-O-Meter", waiting for the two lead characters to EVER ACTUALLY KISS, which they NEVER DO! I have seen TWO movies in 8 years where they actually DID kiss. (Both were big films with international releases) Normally they are headed for a kiss, and ALMOST make it, but 4" from actual contact, they turn their heads and do a cheek bump instead.

I think Indian censors interpret an actual KISS, as identically the same, as full on nude sex, with writhing and moaning and screaming, which is ABSOLUTELY NOT ALLOWED.

The other thing is the singing and dance sequences, with EVERYONE (even the peasant boy with the goat on a rope) dancing in perfect time and dead-on lip syncing. I swear sometimes they have 4000 people in each dance scene, and they are FLAWLESS!

Being an "EXTRA" would be easy work in India, because there is ALWAYS a movie being made, and there are ALWAYS plans for 100-200-5000 people dancing at once. I have actually started to spot and follow the dancing chicks that are in EVERY movie, but NEVER have a speaking role. That must be their permanent profession, because I see the same girls EVERYWHERE, from crowd scenes to airport scenes, to the dancing scenes right before they pummel the bad person in the movie.

Gore doesn't seem to have any limits whatsoever. I think they lost that 10 page section in the movie rating manual, so no one ever pays any attention to it. So even movies for kids have a lot of gore in them.

Just ABSOLUTELY NO KISSING!

I guess everyone has their preferences, because I detest modern Indian movies with that insufferable dancing/singing throughout the entire movie.

Both US and Indian really modern action movies are poor to me, so I'm neutral there. But by a huge margin, American movies are a different universe in quality compared to India. And this is especially so for the old movies, where the focus was on pure acting without all of the autistic CGI and flashes. The days of Anne Baxter, Charlton Heston, Yul Brynner, Robert Redford, Marlon Brando, Sharon Stone and many more. Just no comparison in a million years.

But hey, to each their own.
