Re: ISRAEL/PALESTINE Conflict Discussion Thread IV (2024)
IDF Spokesman RADM Hagari: Rescued ones: Fernando Simon Marman (60) and Louis Har (70) 3 Terrorists have been neutralized. If we include Ori Megedish from last year, we've got 3 rescued hostages so far. The last rescue op was a failure, resulting in 2 dead soldiers. The hostage had been executed. Terrorists released a video from that failed op, very graphic, brrr. |

I am glad Israel is still playing it smart and not letting a handful of hostages undermine the mission of their war. Furthermore, not caving to hostage takers prevents future hostage taking.

Re: ISRAEL/PALESTINE Conflict Discussion Thread IV (2024)
For us watching on the side or if this was a war game, the choice is obviously simple. But the reality is Israel is a democratic country who recognizes the rights of It's citizens. It is an extremely delicate and difficult situation. If the rolls was reversed, Hamas would probably shoot through the hostages or kill the hostages first to prevent them from being used as human shield. |

Re: ISRAEL/PALESTINE Conflict Discussion Thread IV (2024)
Israel a liberal democracy, Are you so sure about that? Is a nation state to be called liberal or democratic if people of another etnicity are not recognized by the judicial system? There are more than 70 laws explicitly discriminating towards the Palestinian people. If you would call the U.S. a liberal democracy the moment they were doing etnic cleansing of the native american people, how rich is your understanding of the words liberty and justice? Israel has never been liberal or democratic; it has been a semi-fascist nation state using propaganda and stimulating dehumanizing rhetoric, media, and not allowing freedom of thought or media at all. Since before the founding moments, and after, it is not a liberal democracy. There is no justice for a population group, and no justice for the victims of the illegal settlers who keep kicking people out of their villages, homes, and land far before this year. A nation which army kills over 100 innocent people every year and allows the continual stealing of their land and property, is not liberal. I would only take the thought of ISR as a liberal democracy seriously, if they would take their own illegal settlers to court and prison, and would thoroughly persecute every form of opression by the army. Every nation state that allows deliberate repression, is not democratic nor liberal. Every nation state that influences big media by means of power, money, and media censure, is acting from a semi-fascist mindset, not a libertarian one. |

Re: ISRAEL/PALESTINE Conflict Discussion Thread IV (2024)
Its the occupied Westbank, you're talking about. Not Israel. When you're Arab citizen of Israel, your rights are identical to everyone else. However, there might be a certain degree of institutional discrimination, as you've got it in every other country on this planet. Nothing is perfect. And the Westbank? Palestinians started and lost many wars in the past 70 years. So the land gets taken. The winner occupies it, this is how it worked for the last 10.000 years. Go figure. The occupied area has ofc a completly different legal system. Military courts etc. which is also quite common... This won't change anytime soon, since the next defeat is currently about to happen. I bet they will snatch some areas from Gaza. |

Re: ISRAEL/PALESTINE Conflict Discussion Thread IV (2024)
Being able to project sovereignty and being democratic are two completely different things. Democratic countries gives it's citizens "rights", specially the right to vote and a voice to be heard. But if you are not a citizen, then you are shit out of luck. Stop talking about people being forced off their land, it's called being conquered. Read history, the human history is short but it's full of people being forced off their land or being wiped out. That's how things are done and it really hasn't changed. So come back to reality and just look at who is more able to project sovereignty then the land belongs to them. |

Re: ISRAEL/PALESTINE Conflict Discussion Thread IV (2024)
For a moment these soldiers thought that they've catched Hamas leader Sinwar :) The captive really looks like him. But testing proved it him be someone else. There are several indications that Israel plans to seal off northern Gaza strip. Contruction of several fortifications and a new road along this line, starting from Nahal Oz in Israel. Will they take it? Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis, which was taken by IDF. They found many active terrorists hiding among the hospital staff, weapons, terrorist pickups. Also cars which were stolen from Israel during Oct 7th. Most serious finds are these unopened boxes containing medicines. These were transfered to Hamas after weeks of negotiations via Qatari mediators. Hamas DID not deliver it to the hostages, despite Qatar claimed it to be. All the boxes with names of those captives were still there. |

Qatar has a pass on that: “He who makes peace between the people by inventing good information or saying good things, is not a liar.” (Sahih Bukhari, Book #49, Hadith #857) |
