Yeah, and besides taking a serious beating, being starved and having a gun pointed on your head has a way to take the fight out of you. It's easy to wonder why they dont fight back but its just basic psychology.

Dude, you have to have everyone united and on the same page to pull that off. If one guy jumps up and starts trying to rally everyone to bum rush them he will be killed or tortured worse than the others and that is why everyone is paralyzed with fear. They each are trying to NOT draw attention to themselves because they don't want the next beating or beheading. They might still have hope that they will be rescued at some point if they behave. These guys are probably barely hanging on to their sanity after being treated like this.

I can't even imagine the sense of doom these guys must feel. Their entire world is crashing in on them at this point. Completely horrific.

Side note:

Oswald would like to see the prisoners executed because they are muslims. That's Oswald's own personal Christian "religion of Peace" that has guided him to his wonderful empathetic views of those from different places than himself.
