Thats how you are supposed to fight. Shoot from distance....thats the entire point of weapons. Otherwise they could just go and attack with pocket knives. And, the whole point of choosing an ambush location and camouflaging yourself is to stay hidden. So that you can kill the enemy, but they cant kill you. War isnt a game. Minimum risk to yourself, maximum risk to your enemy = best strategy. But...imo, they started firing a bit too soon. |

Did anyone else notice how far from the targets they were actually shooting?? Some of the bullets were landing at least 40-50 yards away!!! It was a fucking miracle that they shot everyone, even if they were clustered together like fish in a barrel!!! LOL

I doubt these guys were some sort of badass operators. That's a terrible waste of resources, if so. Also, anyone can panic - and I'm no expert, but I was a soldier - and these guys aren't behaving like they're highly trained. That's just my semi-informed opinion, obviously. But any first-world infantry would've handled that whole situation differently. I think these guys are unfortunate conscripts. The conflict itself is a varying shades of grey, depending upon the year. The Turks have legitimately attempted both ethnic cleansing and genocide against the Kurds at various points, and are the main reason the Kurds don't have their own country, as Turkey's NATO membership and strategic importance give them inflated clout (the US and allies put up with their bullshit for that reason). Which is also why the US won't touch the Kurdish sovereignty movement despite the fact that they have been valuable allies. The bottom line is that Turkey has done the Kurds wrong for many decades. At the same time, PKK and other Kurdish groups have undertaken many vile terrorist actions, bombing cafes and mosques and the like. So while one feels for the Kurdish people, supporting PKK is like supporting the Provisional IRA. |

They did walk in a proper formation but the distances were too short. Usually the squad separates in pairs, then the distance between each pair is as long as you can still visibly see each other. But then I guess that wouldnt have helped much in such a tiny mountain road with no place to spread out.
