Re: Combatant Walks on Top of a Landmine in Eastern Europe.
I can't believe those guys. They were sitting around, opening mines up like they were hamburgers. they must have a LOT of experience. Also, they point out that those mines are 50 years old, and still looked like new on the inside. And still lethal. |

*don't get me wrong there is definitely a thing called mine clearing operations. I've done those too in places that are old conflict areas. I was more referring to the situation. Those men were on patrol in Eastern Ukraine and when you're actively fighting you'll typically not break out the lane flags and start disassembling landmines casually like that video from Cambodia. You're gonna move to your objective and try to kill some people or steal some people. For that you're gonna a bip, blow in place, or mark it with spray paint for the guys behind you and keep moving.

then 50 years later after everyone is dead you send teams in to clear the old fields, and hopefully they were marked properly. And then after all the mines are cleared the grandsons of the guys that laid the ones you just cleared start to kill each other and they plant more. Its the circle of life. |

Re: Combatant Walks on Top of a Landmine in Eastern Europe.
google up this guy's name Aki Ra, seems like he have a lot of experience indeed. self-styled or not. that's why this model was produced in numbers, like, in BIG numbers. cheap, simple to deploy and reliable. no fancy stuff like anti-handling sensors or self-destroy timers. no fancy electronics inside to fail, no batteries to discharge. forbidden by any conventions, deadly and beautiful. totally agree with you. this guy from Cambodia is on a mission now to clear those old mines. probably as some other asian guy was on a different mission 50 yrs ago moving exactly same mines armed and live from one jungle trail to another. and to hell with all SOP some Soviet advisor trained him or his commander. |
