A Unified Command was established Tuesday for response and salvage efforts after the Honorable James L. Oberstar reported vibrations while underway east of Neebish Island in the St. Marys River.

The vessel notified the Coast Guard at 3:50 p.m. Sunday. It was carrying limestone at the time, and no injuries were reported aboard.

The vessel has a total maximum capacity of 108,000 gallons of fuel and other product. There are no reports of pollution in the water or surrounding area.

The vessel is currently anchored in Hay Lake, Michigan.

The Unified Command includes the U.S. Coast Guard, Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy, Chippewa County, and Interlake Steamship Company, with other federal, state, local, and partner organizations assisting. Participants and advisers include representatives from the Northern Michigan Area Committee, the Army Corps of Engineers, the Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians, the Bay Mills Tribe, and the City of Sault Ste Marie Ontario.

The Unified Command's priorities are public and responder safety, wildlife and environmental protection, minimal impact to area economic activity, and safe transit of the vessel.
