The Coast Guard rescued three people and a dog from an orange life raft 41 miles northeast of Oahu's North Shore on Sunday.

Sector Honolulu watchstanders got a VHF-FM channel 16 call at 12:44 p.m. from the master of the 70-foot catamaran Brandi Anne, reporting the vessel was rapidly taking on water. Responders launched an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Air Station Barbers Point and a 45-foot Response Boat-Medium crew from Station Honolulu.

The master later reported they were abandoning the vessel into the life raft, and all three people were reportedly wearing life jackets. The Dolphin crew hoisted the three people and the dog into the helicopter and returned to Air Station Barbers Point. The Coast Guard recommended mariners carry a VHF-FM radio so they can contact the Coast Guard if needed.

Weather on scene was reportedly seas up to 4 feet, winds of 18 mph gusting to 23 mph, and clear skies. The catamaran is partially submerged and may be a hazard to navigation, and mariners in the area were advised to keep a sharp lookout.

In a separate July 4, 2022 case near Lisianski Strait and Porcupine Rock, Sector Juneau watchstanders received a VHF channel 16 report from the commercial fishing vessel Miss Amy that it was taking on water. Watchstanders issued an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast, launched an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Air Station Sitka, and rerouted Coast Guard Cutter Bailey Barco.

The good Samaritan merchant vessels Cirus and Lucky Strike responded. Miss Amy could not keep up with the flooding and sank in about 150 feet of water, 5 miles offshore. All three people aboard went into the water and were rescued by the good Samaritan vessels.

Because of fog and limited visibility, the good Samaritan vessels could not transit from the location of the sunken vessel. The Jayhawk helicopter crew hoisted all three survivors from the good Samaritan vessels and transferred them to Sitka for medical care.
