Station Saginaw River Rescues Two from Saginaw Bay Ice Floe
Coast Guard Station Saginaw River personnel rescued two people from an ice floe in Saginaw Bay, Michigan, on Jan. 22. The initial report came in at 12:37 p.m. for two people on an ice floe about one mile off Almeda Beach. Coast Guard crews from Station Saginaw River and Air Station Detroit responded with the Bay County Sheriff's Department, Pinconning-Fraser Fire Department, and Kawkawlin Fire Department. Station Saginaw River's ice rescue team reached both people and brought them safely back to shore amid worsening weather conditions. An Air Station Detroit helicopter crew overflew the area and confirmed no one else was stranded. No injuries were reported.
