4 U.S. Boaters Rescued After Mariposa Sinks Near Silver Bank
Four U.S. boaters abandoned the sailing vessel Mariposa after it sank near the Silver Bank area in Atlantic waters north of the Dominican Republic on Jan. 21, 2025. The boaters were in a life raft when fishermen from the fishing vessel Bonanza rescued them. The fishermen transferred the survivors to the U.S.-flagged container ship Coqui for transport to Jacksonville, Fla. A Coast Guard HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircrew from Air Station Miami maintained air coverage during the rescue.
