On March 6, the U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Navy Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 25 evacuated a U.S. Coast Guard member from USCGC Polar Star (WAGB 10), about 100 nautical miles south of Guam.

The incident began March 5, when Joint Rescue Sub-Center Guam received word from the Polar Star crew that a 43-year-old man aboard had severe abdominal pain.

Watchstanders determined he needed urgent medical care beyond what was available on the ship. They directed the cutter to reroute closer to Guam and initiate a medical evacuation.
