Marigalante Galleon Sinks
The moment of the epic sinking of the Marigalante galleon, a replica of Columbus's Santa Maria, was captured on video. The incident occurred in Mexico due to a bilge system failure. The ship's interior took on water due to high waves, and the pumping system failed. Despite the efforts of technical and rescue personnel, the vessel could not be kept afloat. For over 30 years, the galleon was a symbol of the bay and part of the history of Puerto Vallarta. The Marigalante was built in 1982 at the shipyards in Alvarado, Veracruz, to cross the ocean to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the discovery of America, which was celebrated in 1992.

Re: Marigalante Galleon Sinks
WOW! TWO 5-corn posts in ONE DAY! I HATE to see sailing ships sink. There are so few of them left. Sounded like timbers cracking as it went down. Probably broke up on the sea bottom. |
