A Coast Guard Station South Padre Island boat crew, working with Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi watch standers and Coast Guard Air Station Corpus Christi aircrews, located and stopped a lancha north of the Maritime Boundary Line on Sept. 24, 2024.

The five fishermen aboard were engaged in illegal fishing, and the Coast Guard seized 500 pounds of illegally caught fish.

A lancha is a 20 to 30 foot fishing boat with a slender profile and one outboard motor, capable of speeds over 30 mph. Lanchas are frequently used to transport illegal narcotics to the U.S. and to fish illegally in the United States' Exclusive Economic Zone near the U.S./Mexico border in the Gulf of Mexico.
