Coast Guard Searches for Missing Kite Surfer Off Evanston
The U.S. Coast Guard is searching for a kite surfer reported missing on Lake Michigan near Evanston, Illinois, on April 23, 2022. At 5:30 p.m., watch standers at Coast Guard Sector Lake Michigan received a distress call from a local firefighter reporting that a kite surfer in a black wetsuit, using a gray and black striped kite, went underwater and was not seen resurfacing. Coast Guard Sector Lake Michigan launched a small boat from Station Kenosha, and the Ninth Coast Guard District launched an MH-60 helicopter from Air Station Traverse City. Both were on scene and actively searching the area. Anyone with information was asked to call Coast Guard Sector Lake Michigan at 414-747-7182.  ·
