Coast Guard Medevacs Palona Crewmember South of Kodiak
A Coast Guard aircrew medically evacuated a 41-year-old male crewmember from the vessel Palona about 450 miles south of Kodiak, Alaska, on Oct. 4, 2022. 17th District Command Center watchstanders received an email from the Palona crew at 5:25 a.m. Monday reporting abdominal pain and other medical complications. An Air Station Kodiak MH-60 Jayhawk launched at 5:35 p.m. Tuesday while the vessel moved closer to Kodiak. A C-130 Hercules launched at 9:06 p.m. to assist as needed and provide communications support during the offshore operation. The MH-60 arrived on scene at 11:00 p.m., hoisted the patient, and transported him to Kodiak. The helicopter landed at Kodiak Benny Benson State Airport at 12:53 a.m. for a wing-to-wing transfer with a LifeMed crew.
