A self-proclaimed "best charter captain in the world," Brock Horner, illegally boarded another boat after people called him out for speeding under a bridge where several anglers were fishing. The Coast Guard and local police are currently investigating the incident.

Horner was released from Charlotte County Jail on April 7, 2025, after posting a $20,000 bond. His criminal arraignment is scheduled for May 5, 2025.

Alongside the police investigation, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) and the U.S. Coast Guard are conducting separate probes, which could lead to additional charges or the potential loss of his captain’s license.

A court order has also barred Horner from contacting Towles.
The incident has had broader repercussions. Horner’s attorney, Scott Weinberg, issued a statement apologizing to Towles, his family, and the public, noting Horner’s regret and citing his history as a decorated combat veteran with a traumatic brain injury from service in Afghanistan.

Despite this, Horner’s business, Tarpon Coast Fishing Charters, has suffered severe damage—his websites and social media are offline, and local entities like Fisherman’s Village have cut ties with him.

A mother, Shalon Smith, who booked a fishing trip with Horner for her son’s 16th birthday on April 14, 2025, is demanding a refund of her $1,800 deposit after Horner ceased communication following the video’s spread.

Towles’ attorney, Steven Leskovich, released a statement on April 7, 2025, thanking law enforcement and asking the public to stop making threats against Horner and his family, emphasizing trust in the justice system.

Meanwhile, another captain, Brock Wagner, faced temporary backlash due to mistaken identity but has since clarified his non-involvement.
